Building a Business on Trust: Danny’s Story

For founder Daniel Raps, animals have always been part of the rhythm of daily life. "We had everything growing up… dogs, cats, gerbils, lizards. Anything my parents would let us have," he said, a reflection of a childhood shaped by constant companionship.

That early love of animals stayed with him. While in college, Daniel took a part-time job at a doggy daycare. What began as a way to make a little money soon became the start of his career path. Over the years, he built up his own private clients for walking and boarding, slowly turning a side job into something much bigger. 

“Being the son of entrepreneurs, I always saw what it meant to build something from the ground up,” he explained. “A lot of people keep dog walking as a side hustle. But I knew I could make it a full business. Watching my parents run their own store gave me that drive.” 

Today, DJ Dog Services provides everything from quick fifteen-minute walks to multi-hour adventures, cat visits, pet transport, and even wedding day assistance for couples who want their pets included in their celebrations. What sets the company apart, Daniel says, is the trust built with every client. 

“Being trusted with someone’s pet, in their home, around their kids… it is an honor,” he said. “We really do love your pet like they are ours.”

With nearly two decades of experience in the pet care industry, Daniel has developed a keen eye for what makes homes easier and safer for pets. His number one piece of advice is to pay attention to the surfaces inside the home. 

“Hardwood and marble are beautiful, but pets need traction. Adding rugs or stair treads can make it safer, especially for seniors or energetic puppies,” he explained.
